Albuquerque 2045
In 2045, I, Paul, now 45 years old, living in Albuquerque, look back in the late 2020s, when anti-democratic forces came to power. State structures had been efficiently dismantled, leaving only the police and fire departments intact. In this new era, Big Tech compared itself to demigods, wielding its influence through algorithms, quantum computers, and AGI to control our behavior and opinions. Studies showed that 87% of the population made decisions based on personalized data suggestions. Decisions? Automated. Advertising? Tailored down to the limbic system.
I decided I would no longer allow myself to be manipulated. I began protecting my data and advocating for the strengthening of democracy. I engaged in local communities and built an independent information platform from the ground up. It was a struggle, but I learned that true freedom and a strong democratic system rely on awareness and commitment.
The world had changed, but I believed that through collective action and democratic values, we could shape a better future. This experience taught me that we hold the power to create our future together, even in the darkest of times.
